Good News for visitors
Here’s some good news for day ticket customers who have been unable to get a day ticket on the river in the past. The club has decided to make a second beat accessible to the general public via our very successful day ticket system.
The beat in question is known as Goff’s and is the least fished part of the entire fishery, mostly because it is rather more remote than the rest of the river. This stretch is equally divided between shallow, fast flowing water with a gravel bottom and mostly deeper water averaging around 4-5 feet in depth, with a few deeper pools. The beat is known to contain some very large trout, chub and pike and has produced some good bags of trout in the early and late season, with the catch per visit ratio often exceeding other beats.
Tickets will be on sale from early next year and, although the final price has yet to be confirmed, will probably be cheaper than day tickets for County School and Yarrow beats. A new booking calendar has been specifically created for the new beat, so booking your tickets will be just as simple. We have formulated new access and parking agreements with the local landowners, so getting to the riverside will be much easier than in the past. It should be emphasised, however, that this is a long beat which is worth fishing throughout its entire length, so some walking will be involved.

The beat will be stocked throughout the season to supplement the wild trout population and we would like to remind anyone planning a day on this stretch of the river to take extra care when handling fish and identifying them. We will also be asking visitors to provide as much information as possible on catch return cards as Goff’s is something of an unknown quantity, having been very little fished over the years.
If you are looking for a day on the river with only the wildlife for company, Goff’s should do nicely.
