THE TIDE’S STILL IN

Unfortunately the river was unfishable on the opening day due to very high water: a bit more than a Spring tide! What made it more unfortunate was that there was a good hatch of large dark olives around midday.

High tide at the cattle drink towards the lower end of the Bintry MIll beat. The post in the foreground marks the edge of the river bank.

Thanks to more heavy rain including nearly 20mm on Easter Monday, the river today Thursday was even higher. Nearly all the meadows above and below Yarrow Bridge are all but underwater and the river was flowing over the lane by the bridge. There are extensive lagoons on either bank of the Bintry Mill beat. It will take a few days for the river to drop and clear enough to make it fishable.
